About me
My initial experience with illustration happened when I was in grade 3, during a manga class. In the class, I was exposed to a form of drawing that I was not particularly familiar with before. This class led me to develop a sort of attraction to illustration. After that encounter, I continued to research about different drawing styles. Although I was interested in the possibility of continuing my artistic journey, because of my family’s disapproval I was forced to stop. Even after my family directed me in the direction of accounting as a career path, my passion for drawing never diminished. I became increasingly observant to the artwork around me; including illustrations in books, images in advertisements, and contemporary artists. The possibility of pursuing art as a career opened up when I arrived in Canada as an international student. I started attending an arts studio, which was my first formal learning experience since grade 3. I learned about the different mediums in artwork, and the processes of creating my own artwork. My time at the studio allowed my artistic skills to flourish. I was able to discover my artistic specialties and the art styles that I enjoy most. My artwork is my primary way of communicating my thoughts and ideas. I am a more timid person, therefore I find it difficult to share my perspective with text or speech. My art pieces are able to convey my emotions and thoughts through different mediums and colours. I was initially interested in pursuing fashion design, with the intention of one day creating my own wedding dress. My ideas were disapproved by my teacher, and I was told that my timid personality would not be a good fit for the industry. I later accepted her advice and decided to focus on illustration instead, which I had previously never considered an option. I decided to take a leap now faith and explore my abilities in illustrating.
Illustration manifested itself in my daily life by making me more aware of my surroundings. This interest makes me more attentive to the artwork in my daily life. I would take pictures and document the art pieces that inspire me. Another way it is manifested in my life is through social media. In this day and age where technology is an essential part of the modern youth’s everyday life, social media plays a large part in influencing our thoughts. I follow many art accounts on my social media, which keeps me connected to the art world. My artwork is my primary way of communicating my thoughts and ideas. I am a more timid person, therefore I find it difficult to share my perspective with text or speech. My art pieces are able to convey my emotions and thoughts through different mediums and colours. Illustration allows me to explore a new way to share my ideas. I enjoy focusing on the details of intricate drawings, and using many colours to create dimension and different atmospheres within the piece.
